TV Recap: So You Think You Can Dance - Top 10 Results

Top Ten week on So You Think You Can Dance always feels like a big test. The couples we’ve gotten used to seeing each week are broken up and re-assigned to new partners. It is at this point that we really get to see which dancers stand out and which ones slip quickly below the voters’ radar. Such was the case tonight when the results turned out to bit less predictable than I… well… predicted.Before we get to that though, let’s acknowledge what Cat Deeley made mention of earlier in the episode. Three SYTYCD choreographers scored Emmy noms for their work last season. Congratulations Wade Robson, Mandy Moore and Shane Sparks! My only question is where is the nomination for Cat? They added a new category for Outstanding Host in a Reality or Reality-Competition series and Ms. Deeley, whose stunning good looks is equally matched by her charisma and charm as host of this series was left off the list. Maybe next year… Tonight’s results episode started off with a fantastic Bollywood routine. The number put a lot of emphasis on hands and arms, which I thought was cool. The girls later performed a Mia Michaels routine to Celine Dion’s rendition of Ave Maria. They looked like child-like dolls and kudos to whoever did their makeup because unlike Comfort’s eye-makeup during last night’s hip-hop routine, which looked great on the dimly lit stage but shockingly disturbing in the light near the judges table, the girls seemed to look even more beautiful when the lights came on. The guys performed a group number, which was choreographed by Nigel, himself. While I still consider Josh my favorite male dancer this season, I couldn’t take my eyes off Will during this routine. I’m not sure if that was due to the choreography or if he just managed to outshine the other four guys. When it came down to the results, I wasn’t all that surprised to see Comfort in the bottom two tonight. She was eliminated last week and it would have been quite an accomplishment had she managed to escape the bottom two tonight. Kherington’s place in the bottom two was a bit more surprising as she was one of the frontrunners this season. But this is what I was referring to earlier. She had such great chemistry with Twitch and he seemed to bring the best out of her. I guess she wasn’t able to transfer that over when she danced with Mark last night. Plus, having to dance the country two-step probably didn’t help her much with the voters. For the guys, I wasn’t shocked at all to see Mark and Gev in the bottom two. They’re both great dancers but neither of them have done much to really stand out in this competition compared to Twitch, Josh and Will. Now that we’re down to the final ten, the judges no longer have a say in which dancers are eliminated. The two dancers to go home tonight were the two who got the lowest number of votes. Kherington, with her classic movie-star looks and Gev, with his quirky sense of humor were both eliminated, much to my own disappointment. I like Comfort and I’m glad she stayed but I thought we’d have at least a couple more weeks of Kherington. And Gev’s solo tonight was fantastic and a definite reminder of how he made it into the top 20 to begin with. What did you think of the results? Were you surprised to see Kherington or Gev go? Have your favorites changed since the couples have split up? I still think Katee and Joshua are my favorites and I’m also rooting for Will as well.
