‘Bionic Woman’ To Return On NBC

By Dean Brooks: 2007-01-03 00:00:00
‘Bionic Woman’ To Return On NBC Nowadays our diva of daring do is arguably Lara Croft of Tomb Raider. In the 80’s it was Ripley from the Alien franchise. But one of the first and most memorable steel-jawed girl-power heroines was The Bionic Woman. Now she’s back. Not content with making a show about ordinary people suddenly gifted with super powers, NBC will reanimate the popular 70’s action-filled ‘The Bionic Woman’ from the past with a twenty first century makeover.

TV.com reports that David Eick (of ‘Battlestar Gallactica’) and Laeta Kalogridis (‘The Dive’) will executive produce and script the series. While NBC has green-lit the series contingent on casting, so far no casting decisions have been announced. Oddly, I have this feeling Lindsay Lohan would fit perfectly for the lead role. She is already crashing and burning, and in need of bionic aids if she intends to live past 30 anyway.

‘Bionic Woman’ initially debuted in 1975 as a spin-off of ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ according to IMDB.com, and then aired both on ABC and NBC through 1978 starring Lindsay Wagner. The new show will stick to the central premise of the original—a young woman receives bionic implants after a horrible accident and then goes off on a series of adventures.

But don’t expect the same old same old with this remake. As Eick said to EOnline back in October ‘06, "It's a complete reconceptualization of the title. It's using the idea of artificial technology as a metaphor for what contemporary women sometimes feel is necessary to do everything that needs to be done" Uh-huh, yeah, well whatever about that English Lit stuff, Eick. Just make sure your new digital lady packs some awesome firepower and a halter top, okay?
