Will Ferrell, Adam McKay And More Sign On For Spoils Of Babylon
While IFC has sort-of become a household name, thanks to Portlandia, a lot of the network’s original programming hasn’t made a huge impression on the cable landscape. IFC is hoping to change that with a brand new original program hailing from the Funny or Die guys, including Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Matt Piedmont, and Andrew Steele.
Called Spoils of Babylon, the series actually has a pretty ballsy and ridiculous premise. Spoils of Babylon will be based on the fake bestselling novel of the same name by fictional author Eric Jonrosh. The story will discuss the rise of the oil industry in the United States from Texas to New York City. Because the story will span multiple generations in the oil industry, it will take an ensemble cast to tell the tale. IFC is also promising “illegal arms deals and international espionage with the Shah of Iran,” which only helps to cement the idea the series will be wild and over-the-top.
Don’t worry, Ferrell isn’t simply going to executive produce Spoils of Babylon--he’s also set to play fiction author Eric Jonrosh, himself. Ferrell, in true comedic fashion had some nice things to say about the partnership with IFC.
“This is a crazy and maybe even a stupid idea. IFC is either really courageous or really stupid which makes them the perfect partner for us."
A parody series seems perfect for IFC’s brand and lineup and I can’t wait to see how Spoils of Babylon turns out as a comedy. Six half-hour episodes have already been ordered by the network, but we still have a little while to wait before the show airs. Spoils of Babylon will premiere on IFC late in 2013.
