M. Night Shyamalan And Marti Noxon Teaming For Syfy Pilot Proof
This latest bit of news concerning Syfy is vague but offers a few reasons to spark interest. First, it looks like M. Night Shyamalan may be dabbling in television sometime soon. What's more, he's teaming up with a woman whose credits include substantial involvement in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, among other projects within the Whedonverse. And the pilot being developed sounds like it could be pretty cool.
At present, Shyamalan's finishing up work on the upcoming scifi feature After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith, due out next year. While Marti Noxon has been busy writing for Glee's third season, which wrapped up this spring. Deadline is now reporting that the two are set to team up to develop a drama pilot for Syfy called Proof. Syfy has reportedly given the project a put pilot commitment and Noxon and Shyamalan will co-write it, with Shyamalan also intending to direct the pilot, should it get the green light.
The story follows "the son of a billionaire tech genius who, after the tragic accident and sudden death of his parents, offers a large reward for anyone who can find proof of life after death."
It certainly sounds like an interesting concept, and considering it's Syfy, I'm going to guess (hope) there's some kind of supernatural element involved here, if it isn't technically science fiction in nature. Noxon and Shyamalan would be well-equipped for that kind of thing. Between Shyamalan's serving as writer/director of The Sixth Sense and Noxon having worked on Buffy and Angel, both have some experience in stories involving some angle or aspect on the afterlife. And this is also a very interesting team-up. It should be interesting to see what develops here.
