Partners Preview: Michael Urie And David Krumholtz Team Up For CBS' New Comedy

While things didn't work out for The Playboy Club at NBC, David Krumholtz will return to primetime this fall, this time to CBS to co-star in the upcoming new comedy Partners. Joining Ugly Betty's Michael Urie, the former Numb3rs star will play an architect whose love-life may interfere with his friendship with Urie's character.

As a fan of Krumholtz and Urie, I'll be interested to see what kind of chemistry the duo have in a comedy. As the synopsis below explains, Krumholtz plays Joe, a man newly engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), while Urie's character Louis is dating Wyatt (Brandon Routh). From the sound of it, there romantic attachments may be infringing on their long-time friendship/bromance.

PARTNERS is a comedy based on the lives of creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, about two life-long best friends and business partners whose “bromance” is tested when one of them is engaged to be married. Joe (David Krumholtz) is an accomplished architect who leads with his head and not his heart, especially in his love life. That’s in stark contrast to his gay co-worker, Louis (Michael Urie), who is spontaneous, emotional and prone to exaggeration.Both have found joy in their love lives: Joe is newly engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), a beautiful and sophisticated jewelry designer, while Louis is dating Wyatt (Brandon Routh), a vegan nurse who Louis insists is just a promotion away from becoming a doctor. As news of Joe’s engagement settles, time will tell if their business and personal bond can adapt to the addition of two other important relationships. Emmy Award winners David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television. Emmy Award winner James Burrows directed the pilot.

I think I may be too much of a fan of Krumholtz and Urie to weigh in objectively here, especially when factoring in the above video, but this looks like a really cute comedy. And I like the idea of romantic relationships getting in the way of a long-term friendship.

With Two and a Half Men moved to Thursdays, that leaves 30 minutes available in CBS' Monday night comedy block. I think Partners sounds like a great fit to follow How I Met Your Mother. At the very least, I'm sold enough by the cast and what we've seen in the video to give this one a try when it premieres this fall.
