Olympics Closing Ceremony Rumors: Adele, Spice Girls, Paul McCartney To Appear?

Olympics Closing Ceremonies don't typically get the same kind of attention, since by then we're a little burnt out on pomp and circumstances, but Sunday's show sounds like something you can't miss. As David Arnold, the music director of the ceremony, puts it, "If the Opening Ceremony was the wedding, then we're the wedding reception."

Arnold was talking to The Telegraph but avoided giving too many details about what to expect; lucky for us, some other gossip-mongers have done some digging and given us an idea of what to expect. According to The Hollywood Reporter, tonight's show will be called "A Symphony of British Music," but before you start thinking classical, the groups rumored to perform include the Spice Girls (reuniting for the first time in years), Adele, George Michael and The Who. And for the younger viewers stuck at home on a Friday night, they've also got boy band sensation One Direction.

To make things come full circle, Paul McCartney is expected to appear again, taking the challenging of living up to his rousing performance of "Hey Jude" back when the games began. All these rumors fit right in with what Arnold was promising about the vibe of tonight's ceremony: "“It needs to be something where everyone, including the athletes, is going to be able to let off steam. There are seven and a half thousand of them there, so it’s a show for them all to get involved with, and hopefully it will wrap up the spirit of what these Games have been, which is slightly anarchic, slightly mischievous, funny, heart-warming, emotional, inspiring, and uniquely British.”

The Olympics Closing Ceremony will air, with the now-customary tape delay, on Sunday night starting at 7 p.m.
