Fringe Season 5 Teaser: They Are Coming

The single most exciting return to television this fall is Fringe. After the usual tooth-and-nail fight to even be granted another, the science-fiction series on Fox is gearing up for the fifth and final season of 13 episodes. With the lean order and (near) certainty that they will be the last, there will be absolutely no room for filler in the upcoming installments as the team, on-screen and off, work to resolve the complex yet emotionally satisfying storyline.

And with John Noble back after a brief hiatus, Fringe is busy doing just that (I should know, they film not too far from my house) with a premiere date in a month and a half's time. The newest tease reinforces a consistent theme in all the Season 5, Observer related marketing so far, namely, that "they are coming..."

Once again there isn't any footage from Season 5 to show the fans but the spot is elegantly crafted and works as a perfect tease. I love the way the Observers are walking out of the shadows, in uniformly growing numbers, as the voice-over from season's past reminds us of their methods and plans. Finally, the first Observer fills the screen and it cuts to black. Season 5 will pick up where the future-set nineteenth episode of last season, “Letters of Transit," left off, which means the team will be working with the Bishop-Dunham offspring (Henrietta) in 2036 to hopefully fix things and return to their past.

Or not. Who knows where Fringe could be heading, I only know where/when it's starting and that I'm going to be there for the ride. Fringe returns with "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11” on Friday, September 28 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. The series was created by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
