Welcome To The Family Clip Shows Two Families Dealing With Some Big News

Family seems to be a key ingredient among NBC's new Thursday night comedies lined up for the fall. That's especially true for Welcome to the Family, a comedy which has two high school graduates deciding to get married when they find out they're expecting a baby. The twist here - besides two kids having a baby - is the culture clash between the two families involved.

The above clip is our first look at this new comedy, which comes from Mike Sikowitz and Jamie Tarses. We'll hopefully have a trailer to add later today once NBC does their upfront presentation. In the meantime, the clip introduces us to the Yoders and the Hernandez's, two families about to be brought together but the impending arrival of a baby born to two high school grads who are really just kids themselves.

With Mike O'Malley and Mary McCormack on board to play Molly's parents, I'm already hopeful that this series will live up to its potential. There's also the chance the show will rely too heavily on the mentioned "culture clash," which could translate to a lot of played out racial stereotypes, but I'm choosing to remain optimistic that this will be funny and charming. Also among this cast is Aramis Knight, who's set to play Bean in the upcoming Ender's Game adaptation. He's the younger brother to Junior, the dad-to-be in this scenario. Junior's played by Joseph Haro, who - in addition to sharing a Glee credit with O'Malley - played Clark Stevenson in MTV's underrated comedy Awkward. And Ella Rae Peck, who plays Molly, isn't going far for this job. Her recent steady gig was playing Mia Bowers on NBC's cancelled drama Deception. Playing Junior's parents are Six Feet Under's Justina Machado and Desperate Housewives' Ricardo Chavira. The cast alone is reason enough to look forward to this one!

Welcome to the Family joins Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show on NBC's Thursday-night line-up this fall.

Update: Here's the official trailer!
