Hello Ladies Poster Shows Stephen Merchant Single And Desperate To Mingle

Hello Ladies poster

The poster for Stephen Merchant's upcoming new HBO comedy Hello Ladies sums up its premise pretty well, with its focus on Merchant sitting alone looking resigned as he's surrounded by happy cuddling couples. While they sip mixed drinks, he wallows solo over a pint, all set over the words "Single and desperate to mingle." Emphasis on the desperate? This new bit of art comes to us via HBO's official Twitter.

Hello Ladies comes from Stephen Merchant, along with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. Merchant's probably best known for his professional associations with Ricky Gervais, including co-writing the original British sitcom The Office and co-starring with Gervais in Extras and The Ricky Gervais Show. Along with the previously released teasers, the above poster emphasizes the focus of the show, which appears to be on Merchant's characters efforts to find romance. While the poster shows off the lack of success he's had in his endeavors, with an emphasis on his desperation, the teasers better demonstrate why he's so unlucky in love. To put it mildly, he's not cool. And he's a goofy dancer…

And I need to recycle this gif because I just adore it:

Of course, his own goofiness may not be entirely to blame for Stewart's attempts to win the ladies over. This tease reveals Stewart's awkward wingman Wade, who thinks a great way to break the ice is to point out how his last name matches one of the names in a notable Supreme Court case…

Merchant's a funny man, and the teasers sell a lot of charming, awkward humor. Hopefully the series will measure up to its potential. We'll find out in a matter of weeks! As the poster indicates, Hello Ladies premieres September 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO. View the full Fall TV premiere schedule here.
