ABC Comedy Gets Back In The Game Tonight, Modern Family, The Middle And More Return

After a night of numerous series premieres on Tuesday, tonight's TV is going easy on us, at least when it comes to new shows debuting, with just one new comedy joining the line-up, along with a slew of returning shows, including ABC comedies The Middle and Modern Family. We also have the return of South Park, Revolution and Nashville!

But first, let's talk about the sole newbie to join the lineup tonight. I'm referring to ABC's new comedy Back in the Game. Is it about baseball? Is it about family? Is it an underdog story? Is it about James Caan being the funny, gruff father and grandpa? If you answered all of the above, you'd be right. Watch the trailer for the new ABC comedy series, which airs tonight at 8:30 p.m. after The Middle on ABC:

Back in the Game stars Caan as the father to Maggie Lawson's character Terry Gannon Jr., a former softball player and now a single mother who has to move back into her estranged father's life, reopening old wounds in the process. Terry soon finds herself coaching the kids who didn't make the local little league team, her son included. Like I said, family, baseball, James Caan. I thought the pilot episode was pretty great. You can check out my review of it here.

Moving on to the returners, ABC has The Middle premiering at 8 p.m., after which we get Back in the Game, and then there's an hour of Modern Family airing at 9:00 p.m. for the show's season premiere. Finally, ABC has Nashville returning for Season 2 at 10:00 p.m., it's usual timeslot.

Speaking of usual timeslots, you may have noticed that The Blacklist took over Revolution's cozy post-Voice timeslot on Monday night. The apocalyptic drama has been moved to Wednesday for its second season. We'll see how well it does without the benefit of The Voice lead-in. Or any lead-in for that matter. Revolution returns tonight at 8:00 p.m. on NBC, followed by the return of Law & Order: SVU.

CBS has CSI: Crime Scene Investigation set to return tonight at 10:00 p.m., following the premiere of Criminal Minds, which airs at 9:00 p.m. ET.

And over on cable, South Park returns for for Season 17 tonight at 10:00 p.m.. The animated comedy will be paired with Key & Peele, which returned last week for its new season and will air tonight at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
