Late Night With Seth Meyers Gets A Promo But Is Missing A Desk

Seth Meyers has an inquiry about a desk in the new promo for his move from Saturday Night Live to his new nightly late night home, Late Night with Seth Meyers. Turns out that with only a month to go, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done. At least, that’s what the 36-second video purports.

NBC is preparing the world for all of its late night programming to get a bit of a reboot, what with Jimmy Fallon taking over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show in addition to moving it from Los Angeles to New York. But some things don’t change: namely NBC’s desire to poke fun at itself and the ramshackle nature of creating television. The promo starts out with Meyers finishing up a turn at SNL’s Weekend Update desk (complete with a Cecily Strong cameo) before making the long, long commute over to his new headquarters over at Studio 8G — a whole 30 feet away from his longtime home over at 8H, where SNL is shot.

But one thing is clear: it seems that no one at SNL is all that sad to see Meyers go, with Strong ignoring his invitation for a tour of his new studio, and Kenan Thompson declaring his intent to takeover Meyers’ dressing room (which, considering his role as both head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor, is probably pretty sizeable. So we don’t blame Thompson — scoop that shit up).

As Meyers takes the steps from H to G, he encounters the hard truth: his studio is far from being camera ready. “Oooh, I thought this was way closer to being done,” Meyers states worriedly before picking up the phone to check in on his desk — a staple for any late night host. Looks like there’s some work to be done!

The clip comes on the heels of another transitional promo: that of the switch-up on The Tonight Show. Fallon’s switchover to The Tonight Show’s big britches was also recently given the video treatment with an ode to the pedigree of the program and those who’ve come before Fallon and Leno — even if they just so happen to get a bit of their revisionist history on when it comes to Conan O’Brien’s ill-fated turn at the desk.

Both Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon premiere on NBC in February: Late Night on the 24th, and The Tonight Show on the 17th.
