Raise Your Glasses, Archer Has Been Renewed For Season 6 And 7 On FX

FX has a long and storied history of keeping shows around for quite some time. With that in mind, it’s not a big surprise that the network would be in favor of keeping its well-liked comedy Archer around for a little longer. What is a bit of a surprise is how long the network has committed to keeping Archer on the air. Not only will fans get a sixth season of the animated comedy, but the network has also committed to a seventh season, as well.

On Friday, the cable channel renewed Archer for Season 6 and Season 7. Both new seasons will consist of thirteen episodes, following the renewal pattern FX has been using for most of the show’s tenure. According to Deadline, Archer will continue to air one season a year. Since the comedy program is currently airing its fifth season, a double renewal means the show will continue to air into 2016. The outlet is also noting that two additional 13-episode seasons would mark enough content to syndicate the series in the future, which is pretty good news, since FX’s series is still top notch upon rewatch.

Archer’s current season started with a bit of a twist, beginning with a name change to Archer Vice. After learning the ISIS was never actually sanctioned by the U.S. government, the team had to figure out a way to maintain their favored, high-end lifestyles and do what they do best: accomplish shit as a team. This led the team into cocaine deals and placed them squarely in the paths of smugglers, drug dealers and other types of professional criminals, leading into situations like the one, below.

Archer typically does over a million total viewers an episode. While those aren’t exactly Walking Dead numbers, animated comedies also aren’t exactly expensive to produce. Plus, the show is formatted in a pretty simple way. Sterling Archer and co. go on some sort of crazy, insane adventure involving weapons, violence, and usually alcohol or some other drug. At some point Archer behaves in a suave manner with a young woman. At another point, he and his mother argue. The rest of the team gets in plenty of quick quips and cutting remarks. And curtain. It actually doesn’t seem all that exciting when you look at it this way, but Archer is consistently one of the funnier comedies on television. Plus, with the new Archer Vice trend, we’ve seen the network allow the comedy to reach even further outside the box.

Season 6 won’t hit the network until 2015. In the meantime, Archer is still running through the rest of this month, so if you are intrigued by the Archer Vice concept, you can catch FX’s show on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET.
