Agent Carter Lands Captain America Directors To Make The First Few Episodes

Each time that Hayley Atwell has portrayed Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she’s worked with a different director (or directors). She first brought the character to life in Captain America: The First Avenger – which was made by Joe Johnston; then she appeared in the Marvel One Shot Agent Carter from producer/director Louis D’Esposito; and most recently she got covered in old age makeup to work with Joe and Anthony Russo on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now that Atwell is getting her own Marvel show, however, it looks like she’s getting the opportunity to work with all four men once again.

Marvel Studios Television had its big San Diego Comic-Con presentation in Ballroom 20 this afternoon, and during the Agent Carter portion of the event it was revealed that the first few episodes of the new show will be made by the filmmakers who were responsible for bringing Peggy Carter to life in the first place. While it sounds like nothing is set in stone just yet, right now the plan is to have Louis D’Esposito direct the pilot; have the Russo brothers make both the second and third episodes, and then have Joe Johnston come in to helm episode four of the first season.

For those who have been following the goings on at Marvel over the last six years, it’s hard to see anything negative in this report. While D’Esposito isn’t really a known name at this point, Joe Johnston is a really fantastic director who brought some real Rocketeer-esque charm to Captain America: The First Avenger. And as for my thoughts on the Russos, I’ll just link you to my five-star review of The Winter Soldier.

While it was great hearing about the potential filmmakers in charge of making Agent Carter, sadly the panel lacked any other concrete details about the series. For example, many have wondered if Dominic Cooper’s version of Howard Stark would be featured on the show, but that question was given a flat “That would be fantastic if that could happen” response. Atwell was also asked if there was a chance that we would see even more strong female characters alongside her on screen, and while she did say that there will be a presence playing for both the good guys and the bad guys, she couldn’t really divulge any details.

As of now, Agent Carter doesn’t have an official start date, but it’s been penciled in to start around mid-season, a.k.a. at the start of 2015. It’s certainly one of our most anticipated new shows, so you can be sure that we will have many more reports about it for you between now and its launch.
