An Arrow Villain Is Heading To The Flash

The Flash is dipping into Arrow’s lineup of enemies once again. Several weeks ago, it was announced that Hellboy actor Doug Jones will be playing the metahuman Jake Simmons, a.k.a. Deathbolt, in Episode 19 of Arrow’, titled “Broken Arrow.” We’ve now learned that this energy-charged villain will be paying a visit to Central City in the coming months for Episode 22 of The Flash.

This weekend, Jones tweeted a picture of himself reading a script for The Flash, teasing that Deathbolt will be appearing in the penultimate episode of Season 1, titled “Rogue Air.” This will be the second time The Flash has borrowed one of Arrow’s bad guys, the first being Robert Knepper reprising his role as Clock King in the episode “Power Outage.” Deathbolt is distinctive for being the first metahuman bad guy that will appear on Arrow, although Team Arrow has already gone up against superpowered foes before like Deathstroke and Solomon Grundy. He has the ability to “harness and weaponize plasma energy.” It hasn’t been specifically stated whether Deathbolt’s powers came from the particle accelerator explosion or elsewhere, but since he’s appearing on The Flash, the former is looking more likely.

The episode’s title also hints that we will see more development of the Flash’s team of enemies The Rogues. Several of its most notable members from the comics have already been introduced, including Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard and Pied Piper. The Trickster (both the James Jesse and Axel Walker versions) will debut in the March 30 episode “Tricksters,” and Captain Boomerang appeared in the Arrow episodes “Draw Back Your Bow” and “The Brave and the Bold.”

Although Captain Cold and Heat Wave have been working together since Episode 10 (and will be joined this week by Cold’s sister Lisa), the Rogues have yet to reach the size they typically are in the comics, so it’s unclear whether fans will see the full formation of the team in this episode or if that will be saved for Season 2. That being said, every episode this season with “Rogue” in the title has featured Captain Cold, so perhaps after the major events of “Rogue Air” transpire, the icy villain will recruit Deathbolt to the team. His powers certainly present enough of a danger to the Scarlet Speedster, so imagine how much damage he could cause if he had allies backing him up.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
