Nick Offerman Understands Why Parks And Rec Fans Are Currently Nauseated By Him

With his signature mustache that’s seemingly as thick as a child’s bicep, actor Nick Offerman has one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment. But when that particular chunk of facial hair has been removed, he mostly looks like an average dude, and apparently some fans are passionately peeved on occasions like this. Luckily, the comedian is genial in his acceptance over some people not liking his clean-shaven look.

Offerman appeared at BookCon this week in New York City to promote his second and most recent book Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America’s Gutsiest Troublemakers, and he shared his feelings about his fanbase’s reactions to his face. Here’s how he put it, according to THR.

I’m so grateful that Ron Swanson and Parks and Rec worked so well that it makes people angry that I would dare look different. I understand that it’s a compliment when they say it makes them puke when they see me! But I want to remind them that it’s my face they’re accusing of making them nauseated.

It is rather beyond rude to tell someone that any part of them is nauseating, unless it’s a stomach virus or something. My own father sported a mustache for most of his life, and while he always looked weird without it – and I may or may not have been scared of his mustache-free self at a very young age – I’m not sure I ever told him his look was stomach-turning. Am I saying that I wish Nick Offerman was my dad? It’s entirely possible.

People are probably just saddened that Parks and Recreation is gone forever, since Ron Swanson and his alpha male attitude have been in our lives for a long time. But with upcoming mustache-less roles in films like Ken Kwapis’ A Walk in the Woods and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, among others, maybe people will start to accept his upper lip for what it is.

Luckily, he’s not entirely sold on leaving the mustache off forever.

If I keep it off for a while, then maybe I can bring it back and play some sort of bumbling sheriff.

Is there any way we can get Offerman in a Don Knotts-style role? We’ll work on it. In the meantime, check out Offerman’s modern face in the recent Tonight Show clip below, in which he plays “Would You Rather?” with Jimmy Fallon.

See? No Pepto Bismol needed after seeing Offerman’s face. Fans are just too much these days.
