Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Introduce This Badass Comic Book Character

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe tends to give most of its love to the big screen, there’s a lot of interesting stuff going on with Marvel on television as well. Last season Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced us to the Inhumans. It looks like they’re not going anywhere as at least one recent Inhumans character from the comics will be making his TV debut sometime in Season 3.

Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel’s Television department was speaking during the Marvel TV panel at San Diego Comic-Con and he announced that the new season would see the introduction of the Inhuman named Lash to the series. We don’t really know anything beyond that, so whether Lash is going to become a series regular, or just a guest star, a hero, or a villain, is unknown.

Lash is relatively new Inhuman in the comics, he was first introduced in 2014. Lash is a big brute of a guy with great strength and agility, but he also has energy manipulation abilities so he can absorb and modify energy as well as blast you with it. His character in the comics is one who believes that not everybody who is capable of evolving via the Terrigen Mist, is necessarily worthy of the transformation. This certainly has the potential for conflict if Lash and Skye come into contact and he decides he doesn’t care for her.

On the other hand Lash could be a very different character on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The origin story of Deathlok on the series is unique to the show without any previous comic continuity so the same could end up being true of Lash. We still expect he’ll be an Inhuman, and be a big hulking powerful one at that, but his exact origin and personality could be something totally different than what we’ve seen before.

While the Inhuman storyline is not the biggest question coming off of Season 2, it’s obviously going to be a major part of the show going forward. We know Skye will be on the lookout for people like her and it looks like she’s going to find at least one. Actually she should be finding more than just one since we know at least part of Season 3 will be based somewhat on the Secret Warriors, which in the comics was a group of Inhumans created to fight the Skrull army. While Lash was never part of the team in the original iteration, there's no reason he couldn't be now. All of this will eventually lead into an Inhumans movie, though it’s not planned until 2019, so quite a bit could happen in the MCU between now and then.
