Twin Peaks Just Added Amanda Seyfried, Get The Details

Recent years have seen a trend in success stories being rebooted on screens big and small alike. One such project to be making a return will be a revival of creepy drama Twin Peaks, which originally aired on ABC for two seasons from 1990–1991. Production has been shrouded in mystery, but it has been confirmed that Amanda Seyfried will be joining the cast of the Showtime revival that will take viewers back to Twin Peaks, Washington for the first time in a quarter of a century.

Amanda Seyfried is set to join Twin Peaks and will be playing a pivotal new character. If the revival takes after its predecessor, however, her character could be anything from a hallucination to a shifty local to a cousin who looks a whole lot like the key murder victim. While TVLine reports no details have been released, we could probably at least count upon a relationship to original protagonist Dale Cooper if she starts narrating to a dictophone or rhapsodizing about pie.

Amanda Seyfried is perhaps best known for her role as the ditzy Karen in the 2004 film Mean Girls, but she’s made a name for herself in other such films as Mamma Mia and Les Miserables. Her TV credits have been less prominent, with runs on Big Love and Veronica Mars as her most notable. The revival of Twin Peaks promises a departure from the norm for Seyfried that could introduce audiences to a new side of the 29-year-old actress.

While there’s no saying how the town of Twin Peaks will have changed since the series went off the air in 1991, the revival will be acknowledging the passage of time. Twenty-five years have passed for the folks of Twin Peaks as well as for viewers.

Twin Peaks was best known for the mystery surrounding the murder of Laura Palmer and the supernatural shenanigans that influenced FBI Agent Cooper’s investigations. Featuring possibly the creepiest villain (named BOB) in the history of TV and a resolution to the Laura Palmer mystery halfway through the second season that still induces chills, Twin Peaks nevertheless meandered in the vacuum created by the solving of the series’ original mystery. The show also struggled with justifying why Agent Cooper would stay in Twin Peaks after Laura’s murder had been solved.

The original Twin Peaks had a relatively short run for a series of such wide cultural significance. With only two seasons, Twin Peaks managed to pave the way for similar creepy offbeat shows such as themegahit franchise The X-Files and became a cult classic over the past 25 years. Twin Peaks returning to the small screen promises some long-awaited closure for fans of the original, and the casting of Amanda Seyfried may bring extra awareness to the project to bring it back in the long term.
