Outlander Just Earned A Huge Renewal From Starz

There’s arguably never been a better time for television networks to take risks with the programming that they produce. Between series like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, TV shows based upon admittedly outlandish properties have become some of the most successful small screen projects in recent memory. While HBO and AMC can tout those particular series, Starz has similarly put forth the effort to bring us a top-notch epic adaptation, and if you’re a fan of the hit drama Outlander, then we have some great news for you: You’re about to get a whole lot more of the show you love.

Starz has put in a massive order for two more seasons of its popular series Outlander. In keeping with the current format of the show, the third and fourth seasons will respectively adapt the third and fourth installments in the eight-part Outlander book series. Specific plot details have been hard to come by, especially since Season 2 still hasn't come to a close yet, but we can at least confirm that we will get two more years out of the series.

Outlander is a time-travel love story about a WWII combat nurse by the name of Claire Randall who is suddenly swept away from her home in 1945 and dropped into the world of Scotland circa 1743. The series is based upon a series of novels written by author Diana Gabaldon, and adapted for television by the legendary Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame.

The lush and lavish show has become a critical darling for the network, as well as a personal favorite for the Starz higher-ups, who see it as one of their flagship series. Outlander really does quite a bit to set itself apart from currently available television programming – particularly with the fact that it is one of the few premium cable series fronted by a strong female lead. This high popularity has garnered it immense acclaim, as well as numerous nominations and awards, ranging from the Golden Globes to the People’s Choice Awards.

Although we know that a third and fourth season of Outlander will soon come to Starz, we have little way of knowing what they will look or sound like. Series composer Bear McCreary recently made a statement about how the musical styling and overall aesthetic of the series will change in accordance with changing settings and passing of time. The first season of Outlander took place in Scotland, and therefore maintained a very Scottish sensibility with regards to its score and overall visual style; with the series' recent move to France for the second season, the aesthetic has changed immensely to match the new locale. Now that Seasons 3 and 4 are on the way, it might be time to get into the books to think about where it will all go from here.

We will bring you more information related to the recent, massive renewal of Outlander as more information becomes available to us. And don't forget to tune into Starz to watch the conclusion of Outlander Season 2.
