The Flash Character We'll Probably Get To Meet In Season 3

Team Flash

Season 2 of The Flash featured a lot of drama on family fronts, ranging from Harrison Wells and his daughter to the newly expanded West clan to Barry and his father figures to Cisco's sibling issues. One character who didn't get to spend time with family was Caitlin Snow, presumably because she was too busy either being wooed or kidnapped by an Earth 2 speedster. Luckily for Caitlin fans, Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has revealed that Season 3 will probably introduce a major member of her family who was only mentioned in Season 2 during a chat between Caitlin and Killer Frost. Caitlin's mom is on the way.

We haven't met Caitlin's mother yet, so we got a little talk between the two women, which is something that will probably play out in Season 3.

Andrew Kreisberg's reveal to EW that Caitlin's mom will likely be showing up in Season 3 makes sense for Caitlin's arc in Season 2. When Zoom kidnapped her, dragged her to Earth 2 and imprisoned her in his lair to try to make her fall in love with him, he brought Caitlin face to face with her Earth 2 doppelganger Killer Frost. The two women didn't have a ton in common, but it turns out that their mothers can both be qualified as frigid narcissists.

Interestingly, Killer Frost revealed that it took the death of her brother Charlie to turn her mother cold. Caitlin never had a brother, so it's possible that the appearance of her mom in Season 3 will reveal what happened to make her so difficult for Caitlin to deal with. Caitlin claimed not to know why her mom was cold toward her. Given that Killer Frost never clarified whether Earth 2 Charlie was an older or a younger brother, Season 3 could reveal that an Earth 1 Charlie existed but died before Caitlin was born.

Killer Frost and Caitlin Snow

Season 2 of The Flash ended in a way that could actually mean the Mama Snow who shows up in Season 3 will only exist for as long as it takes for Barry to undo the damage he did by traveling back in time and saving his own mother. We can't say how closely the beginning of Season 3 will follow the Flashpoint story of the comics, but we can bet that Barry will have messed up the timeline in a pretty big way. A version of Caitlin's mom who never suffered the tragedy that turned her cold could appear as part of the new (and hopefully temporary) timeline.

Personally, I'm hoping that Caitlin's mom in Season 3 doesn't only show up because Barry changed history. Caitlin didn't have a whole lot to do in Season 2 that didn't revolve around a past, present, or potential future love interest; expansion on her life before Team Flash could flesh her out nicely.

Unfortunately, The Flash is currently on hiatus until fall, so we won't be seeing Caitlin's mom or any of the other new characters on screen anytime soon.
