Dancing with the Stars only kicked off a few weeks ago. While there are still some markedly mediocre dancers in the competition, this week also proved that there are some stellar dancers. Most notably was the dance between Val Chmerkovskiy and Laurie Hernandez, which went off without a hitch. In fact it earned the dancers perfect 10's from the judges. You can give the snazzy performance a watch, below.

Laurie Hernandez is way too young to be doing a doing a dance that is this sexy, but she nails the performance, anyway. Gymnasts on Dancing with the Stars have a pretty good track record on the competition series. There's a little bit of dance involved with floor routines, after all, and besides, being a gymnast assures that they are in incredible shape. The song choice here was also just stellar and the additional choreography from the extra dancers really brought the performance to life. The two danced to Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" and really brought it all to the performance, earning them the first perfect 10's during Season 23.

Seriously the judging scores on this are insane. Val Chmerkovskiy and Laurie Hernandez's performance was both fun and electric, but we rarely see a 10 thrown out by a judge this early in the season, much less a whole set of perfect 10's. The dancers at this stage are usually just now starting to feel the competition out and are improving on their scores each week. However, they aren't usually putting together routines that earn them the best scores possible.

I'm not the only person that is a little surprised about how Monday's episode of Dancing with the Stars panned out. In fact, both Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy were a little bit shocked. The latter told reporters that the bar he had set for Monday's Michael Jackson performance was a whole lot lower:

After a night like tonight, our confidence is sky high. And this was the least time we've had to put a dance together. I wasn't expecting a perfect score, to be honest with you.

Hernandez also mentioned that she and her dance partner hopped straight from good but not great scores like 8's into full 10's. She's basically living the dream on Dancing with the Stars right now, and at this point, the competition is hers to lose. James Henchcliffe and Sharna Burgess also did well, so it's not as if this whole thing is a runaway at this point. Plus, fan votes on the ABC series count just as much as good scores.

New episodes of Dancing with the Stars air on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET, only on ABC. To find out which shows have yet to premiere, check out our fall TV premiere schedule.
