Television nowadays is filled with all kinds of reboots and revivals that make old shows new again for another generation, and the 90s kids series The Magic School Bus will be one of the most family-friendly to get the reboot treatment. Netflix has ordered a new series called The Magic School Bus 360 that will take viewers on all new adventures into learning. Not too many details are yet available about what's coming in The Magic School Bus 360, but one actor from the original series will have a part to play, and he revealed what we can expect from the new show. Stu Stone said this about The Magic School Bus 360:
It's a very top secret field trip that Miss Frizzle is taking the kids on. I'm a little bit old to be in the fifth grade, so I'm not here to say that I'm officially in Miss Frizzle's class, but I will say that I went to the classroom and I saw some of my old classmates there. I also ran into some new kids--there's a lot of new kids and generations on the show. Just like the original series when Miss Frizzle has friends, they were usually voiced by celebrities. There are tons of cameos, I know that there are big stars that want to be involved in this.
Stu Stone voiced young Ralphie Tennelli in all four seasons of the original Magic School Bus, so many 90s kids who watched the series during its run from 1994-1997 probably have fond memories of his character. His reveal that he and several of his former Magic School Bus classmates will contribute to The Magic School Bus 360 in some capacity means that we can probably expect plenty of nods to the original series in the reboot.
It should be interesting to see how The Magic School Bus 360 incorporates the original actors into the new series. It could go in the Fuller House and Girl Meets World direction and introduce the new generation of youngsters as the kids of the former fifth-graders, although that would raise the question of how Miss Frizzle is still spry enough for more bonkers adventures into science. Another way for the show to go could be to give brand new characters to the returning actors and simply bring them back for the nostalgia factor.
Stu Stone's tease to TMZ of big stars who want to be involved with The Magic School Bus 360 is a solid reason to get excited about the series. Celebrities ranging from Dolly Parton to Tony Randall to Dan Marino all lent their voices to episodes back in the 90s. If the new show is anything like the original in terms of attracting celebrities, all kinds of famous folks could drop in for an episode or two.
The Netflix reboot was first announced in June of 2014, and it was intended to premiere at some point in 2016. The 2016 premiere obviously didn't happen, but it sounds like the project is on schedule to hit the web in 2017.
