In every episode, Flip or Flop tasks its hosts with turning quasi-trash into treasure, and viewers have been faithfully tuning in since the home improvement show first hit HGTV back in 2013. Unfortunately, a big setback happened last year when hosts and business partners Tarek and Christina El Moussa separated, eventually filing for divorce in January. And while both have said their personal issues wouldn't stand in the way of Flip or Flop's future, reports have surfaced that the show is now kaput, with Season 8 not happening. However, other reports refute those initial claims. What's happening here?

With Season 7 of Flip or Flop set to air later this year, HGTV doesn't need to worry just yet about having nothing left on the way from Tarek and Christina El Moussa, but this is generally the time of year when an upcoming season would go into production. InTouch reports that nothing else is scheduled to be filmed for the flagship series, though plans are full speed ahead for the already announced spinoff series, each of which will center on a new host couple in a new city.

Indeed, the reports also state that Christina El Moussa is quite interested in striking out on her own in the reality TV biz. Allegedly, she's aiming to get out of her Flip or Flop contract and wants to front her own interior design series, and not necessarily at HGTV, either. The ratings are solid for the renovation series in Season 6, so it's not hard to believe that other networks would jump at the chance to sign the designer.

However, it turns out those reports might not be telling the right story. According to TMZ, everything about Christina El Moussa wanting to move on and start up her own mini-empire isn't true at all. This rebuttal also states that the couple is actively working with HGTV execs to line up all the details to get Season 8 in motion, and they're inspired by all the attention the upcoming spinoff series could potentially bring to the forerunning show.

HGTV isn't offering up any official updates, and it isn't likely Tarek and/or Christina El Moussa will go public before everything is set in stone one way or the other. So for now, we wait to hear something more concrete. Flip or Flop will air its Season 6 finale on Thursday, May 30, at 9:00 p.m. ET, and Season 7 is set to hit HGTV at some point later this year.
