How Gotham Season 4 Could Change Up Its Villains

Season 3 of Gotham has really delivered in the way of villains, and with Ra's Al Ghul approaching, the full Riddler transformation imminent, and the Court Of Owls in full force, you gotta wonder how showrunners will keep this awesome villain streak running in Season 4. Actress Jessica Lucas may have spilled the beans on a particular supergroup making its way onto the scene, as she teases a full Gotham City Sirens lineup that could really shake up Gotham's villain game in Season 4:

Oh, I don't want to spoil anything, but I think that is the plan. I love that they started it out in an unexpected way with Barbara and Tabitha because neither one of those characters are part of the Sirens in the comic books. But I think there is room for growth, there is room for new members and I think it would be great to have some sort of girl gang going on next season. So I hope so, but I'm not sure yet!

In case you aren't familiar, the Gotham City Sirens is an all-female villain group in the Batman universe. Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy form a faction to watch each other's back as they go about their evil planning and scheming. Jessica Lucas' words to Heroic Hollywood perhaps indicate that we might be seeing Barbara and Tabitha personifying their Sirens night club in Season 4, potentially with a couple of new or returning faces. Or perhaps even sooner than that, as Lucas also teased Tigress mentoring young Selina Kyle, meaning more defined beginnings of Catwoman's rise and the Sirens' expansion could arrive before the end of Season 3.

Introducing a group like the Gotham City Sirens to Gotham will certainly twist up the villain scene for Season 4. Having a dedicated squad of supervillainesses will be a nice change of pace in three seasons of crime families, shadowy conspiratorial organizations, and resurrected criminals. It's past due for the Batman comics' all-girl group of ass-kickers to became fully realized in live-action and, if Barbara does indeed qualify as Harley Quinn, it won't take too long to set up the classic lineup.

Sure, there has been some random villain groups like the Maniax and the Red Hood Gang in the past, but neither of those was even close to as big as this, and the former served as a bigger introduction to evil Barbara, Tabitha and Jerome. Putting so many headlining villains together really should give Gotham a new direction for its lesser-used baddies. With Ras, Riddler and now potentially the Gotham City Sirens in full effect for Season 4, you have to wonder how much longer before Gotham will be in need of a Caped Crusader to rise up against these increasingly threatening foes! Foes that will also possibly be showing up for their own big screen adventures as well.

Gotham will return for the last chunk of Season 3 beginning April 24th at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
