The Surprising Person Megyn Kelly May Interview First On NBC

megyn kelly fox news

Megyn Kelly made major news earlier this year when she made the decision to leave her lucrative gig on Fox News and move to NBC. The broadcast network expects to launch Kelly's new daytime show at some point in the fall, but she'll likely be on the small screen much sooner, and quite possibly with a very big interview. Megyn Kelly's first interview for NBC could be with none other than Vladimir Putin.

NBC News chairman Andy Lack has apparently been hard at work this week trying to nail down an interview with the Russian president. Nobody at NBC has confirmed or denied that Megyn Kelly will be the lucky news personality to land the interview with Vladimir Putin, but Page Six reports that Lack has been working to try and set a meeting with Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, to line up an official interview for somebody at NBC, and the timing indicates that Kelly is at the very least in the running.

The two other NBC news personalities who might land the Vladimir Putin interview are Matt Lauer of Today and Lester Holt of Nightly News. Interestingly, Megyn Kelly, Matt Lauer, and Lester Holt were all part of the debate processes between candidates for the 2016 presidential election. They're all big names in political news reporting, and they could all be a logical pick to interview Putin for NBC.

That said, there is a pretty solid case to be made for Megyn Kelly landing the interview. Her departure from Fox News for NBC has been well-publicized, and it's no secret that Kelly passed on a mighty paycheck from Fox News to move to broadcast television. She'll host two shows on the network: a daytime show airing at either 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. this fall and a Sunday night show that may start as early as this summer. The Putin interview could put Kelly on the map on an international scale and create plenty of buzz for NBC.

We'll have to wait and see. The news landscape can change pretty quickly nowadays, as we've seen in cases ranging from the Roger Ailes' sexual harassment debacle to the current Bill O'Reilly scandal to even Tamron Hall departing Today in the wake of Megyn Kelly's arrival. We can be sure that a Vladimir Putin interview would be huge for any NBC anchor who scores it.
