Stranger Things' Ghostbusters Love Just Got Rewarded By One Of The Actual Ghostbusters

Anyone who has seen the Netflix hit Stranger Things will instantly be able to tell you about its profound affection for cultural touchstones from the 1980s. It has its finger firmly on the pulse of pop culture from that iconic decade, and that idea will be explored even further in Season 2 when the show pays homage to Ivan Reitman's 1984 classic, Ghostbusters. Stranger Things' deep love for the comedy classic has not gone unnoticed by certain Ghostbusters insiders, who recently decided to reward the cast of the series with some awesome Ghostbusters goodies. Check out Finn Wolfhard's Instagram post below to see for yourself.

As far as congratulations gifts go, you would be hard pressed to beat what Finn Wolfhard received from original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd and director Ivan Reitman upon completion of Stranger Things' second season. According to the caption, the young actor returned to his trailer to find a present from the comedy duo wishing him well and expressing great enthusiasm for the next season of the series. Think of the best gift that you have ever received. This is better.

Despite the fact that Ghostbusters came out over three decades ago, its vice grip over pop culture remains as tight as ever. Easily considered one of the best comedies of all time, many Ghostbusters fans have come to view the franchise as essentially untouchable without the creative input of the original cast. In fact, as many of you already know, the franchise even experienced a false start last summer when Paul Feig's female-driven remake failed to gain any real traction with audiences. Given that film's failure with fans (and mediocre reception from critics) it seems increasingly likely that homages like the one seen in Stranger Things Season 2 will be how people remember the beloved franchise, rather than full-blown reboots.

Of course, it's also worth noting that Stranger Things Season 2 is probably going to be way scarier than anything we ever saw in any of the Ghostbusters films. Check out the Super Bowl trailer for the upcoming season of the series to see what I mean.
