Premieres: Wednesday, August 19 at 8 p.m. Network: FOX Creator(s): Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd Starring: Kelsey Grammer, Patricia Heaton Website: Fox.com
We all think it takes nothing to report the news: sit at a desk and read what’s on paper. What can make a great reporting team, though is chemistry, and Chuck Darling (Kelsey Grammer) and Kelly Carr (Patricia Heaton) had that in spades. So what if they hated each other off-screen?
Chuck left the Pittsburgh station in the late-90’s for bigger things, but after his very own YouTube “Macaca moment,” Chuck must return to his fraught partnership and the rest of the kooks who work at the station. Fred Willard, Josh Gad, Ayda Field and Ty Burrell round out the cast.
Say what you will about Heaton and Grammer’s former shows (Everybody Loves Raymond and Frasier, respectively) in their later years: these two have talent. Add Fred Willard into the mix, and you have one of the most impressive lineups for the upcoming season. Creators Levitan and Lloyd each had a role in creating Frasier, and Lloyd also worked on The Golden Girls, which did squabbling people in close quarters better than anything I’ve ever seen. While it sounds like Back To You is a classic sitcom in a way that hasn’t been too popular lately, I have faith in the combined talent here to make it worth my time.
