Based on the promos for Chuck, I would describe this series as an action-comedy. The series centers on Chuck (Zachary Levi), a computer nerd who works at the tech help-desk at an electronics store. He’s as average as average gets for a guy who went to Stamford and now lives with his sister. Then Chuck gets an email from an old friend and everything changes. When he opens the email, it downloads volumes of government intel into Chuck’s brain, giving him top secret knowledge of the sort that could get him killed, should the wrong people find out about it.
Naturally, the government needs the information that Chuck has so they bring him on as a secret agent – a fact that he wont be able to share with his friends or family.
When I heard there was a new series coming out from the guy who created The OC, I filed the show under “Who Cares?” on my list of new series to keep an eye out for. Then I saw the promos for Chuck, added to what NBC has on their website and the series was immediately re-filed under “Must watch.” Chuck looks like it could be really great and there doesn’t appear to be a shred of the kind of cheesy drama one might find in any given episode of the other Schwartz-created series, The OC. I was also excited to learn that Adam Baldwin (Firefly) is in it, playing one of the agents sent to protect/work-with Chuck.
Chuck looks funny, charming and action packed. If you’re trying to figure out which new shows you need to catch this fall when they premiere, add Chuck to your list. I have a feeling this one’s going to be a keeper.
