The imdb keyword says it all: awkward. Larry David-- or “Larry David,” the TV persona of the show’s creator and writer-- has spent five seasons unintentionally insulting everyone in Los Angeles, from his in-laws to self-help groups to his long-suffering wife, Cheryl. At the end of last season Larry died, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it was significant-- he came right back after watching his loved ones arguing over his corpse.

In the first episode of season six, titled “Meet the Blacks,” Cheryl talks Larry into taking in a family displaced by a hurricane. We can expect plenty more awkward scenarios and insults, as well as cameos from Vivica A. Fox, Steve Coogan, and California senator Barbara Boxer, as herself. Cheryl Hines also suggested in an interview that this season might be the last-- say it ain’t so!



Curb has consistently been one of the funniest and most squirm-inducing shows on television, part of HBO’s creative force of shows that have dominated this decade. There’s no reason to expect the talent to have run out this time around, given that David has been at this for decades and will probably keep going as long as he physically can. Curb deserves a bigger audience than its collection of cultish fans, but even if this season doesn’t help it find those huge numbers, there’s no way it won’t satisfy everyone who’s been waiting for Larry to come back.
