Heroes is a show about ordinary people who find out that they have extraordinary abilities. The first part of the season dealt with the main characters discovering their powers and learning how to use them while still trying to maintain normal lives. Among them, there’s Claire, the cheerleader who is invincible, Nathan, the politician who can fly, and Hiro, the cubicle drone who can time travel. The powers may come straight out of comic books, but, thankfully, there isn’t a costume to be found.

As the season wore on, the characters began to meet and learned that they needed to work together in order to prevent a catastrophic event that could destroy New York City. This goal was made more difficult by Sylar, a serial killer who hunted down those with special abilities and killed them in order to appropriate their powers. While characters died throughout the season, the finale was especially bloody with the possible death of four lead characters (Sylar, D.L., Nathan and Peter Petrelli). Season two starts with us finding out who lived and who died.

Yatta! Heroes is almost back! As I don’t like Science Fiction or comic books, I kind of ignored this show for the first month or so that it was on the air. I heard such good things about it though, that I caught up with the episodes on Itunes and was instantly hooked.

I’m a big fan of ensemble dramas and the freedom that they afford. With the weight being distributed among many characters, if there’s a storyline or character that you may not like, *cough* Niki/Jessica *cough* there are plenty of other people to focus on. Heroes also took advantage of having an ensemble by switching up the cast. Not all of last season’s heroes make it to this season, plus new characters are being added.

My big fear for the show is the dreaded sophomore slump. Heroes has gotten so much good buzz and hype (even if you’ve never seen the show, there’s a very high chance that you still know the phrase “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World”), that it may be hard to live up to. Hopefully the addition of Kristen Bell and David Anders to the cast will help keep up the momentum.

If you missed the first season, the DVDs were just released, so you have time to catch up before the season premiere (and you totally should).
