House follows the adventures of Gregory House (Laurie), a cranky, but brilliant, diagnostician and his three protégés, Drs. Foreman (Epps), Cameron (Morrison) and Chase (Spencer). Every week, the team is faced with a medical mystery. They generally only have days to properly diagnose the illness and treat it. House apparently exists in a world without medical ethics or malpractice suits, as he and his ducklings are constantly trying risky procedures that embody the notion of “the cure is worse than the disease.” One of last season’s episodes had House sticking a hollowed-out needle straight into a girl’s eye! Unnecessarily!
When we left Princeton-Plainsboro last May, Foreman and Cameron had resigned and Chase had been fired. This season starts off with House all alone, but some new characters join the cast as possible replacements for the exiled trio. The three actors will be resuming their roles, but the big questions for season 4 are when and in what capacity?
When House first premiered, I was burned out on medical dramas and procedurals. I just couldn’t handle devoting another hour of my TV-watching schedule to close-ups of intestines and other grossness. Here’s the thing though: Hugh Laurie is amazing. Flat-out. Not only that, but he has a great supporting cast and the writing is tight and funny.
I watched the entire first season on DVD about a year ago, and I was hooked. Since then, I’ve been catching up on reruns and am very psyched for this season, when I will become an actual House viewer.
