In case you haven’t gotten on board with this series, How I Met Your Mother is a sitcom about five friends living in New York City. The story is told by a future version of the main character, Ted who is telling his kids about the years that lead up to meeting their mother. Ted is a practical guy, just looking for a woman to settle down with. His friends, Marshall and Lily are a bit further ahead on the whole life-plan timeline. They just got married last season and will probably be the first to have a baby. Robin is a news reporter and also Ted’s recently exed girlfriend. Barney is bringing back the New York yuppie-act single-handedly. He embraces single life as much as any red-blooded American man can.

When season 2 of HIMYM ended, Marshal and Lily were married and Robin and Ted were broken up. Barney was… still Barney. When the third season resumes later this month, Robin will be returning from a trip to South America with her new fling on her arm. Needless to say, Ted, Marshall and Barney are less than welcoming towards her exotic and deliciously handsome new boyfriend who is played by none other than - spoiler alert - Enrique Iglesias.

Mandy Moore is also rumored to make a guest appearance early on in the third season.

The final words in the second season were, “It’s gonna be legen – wait for it - ” Well, we’ve been waiting for it all summer and soon the new season of How I Met Your Mother will resume. HIMYM is one of the only sitcoms I watched regularly last season and I grew to love it more and more with each new episode. I was happy to see that Ted and Robin were broken up when the season ended, not because I dislike either character but because most of us are pretty sure Robin is not the “mother” that future-Ted is speaking of. I much prefer Lily and Marshall as the token couple of the group anyway.

While Ted and Robin are on the outs, its probably safe to say that the group will be somewhat divided when the season begins. This should make for some interesting episodes.

One of the things I love about the series are the flashbacks. Granted, the whole show is basically one giant flashback but I liked the unique way some of the episodes played out, giving us the outcome first and then going back further to show us how everything happened. Last season, my all-time favorite episode was "Slap Bet", in which some of the characters slapped the crap out of each other and it was revealed that Robin was once a Canadian teen pop star. The episode was absolutely legendary. I’m really looking forward to whatever the new season has to offer.
