There’s only one Superman, but for decades he’s had thousands of stories to tell. Smallville is the first Superman story, about Clark Kent’s (Tom Welling) teenage years growing up in Smallville, Kansas, where he landed on earth when his home planet, Krypton, blew up. His on-again, off-again love is Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), who has also been involved with future-supervillain Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Over the course of the series Clark has come to understand and use his abilities, and famous characters from the comic books like Lois Lane (Erica Durane) and Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) have come to Smallville and become regular characters.
Season six ended with a cliffhanger, with Clark learning that Lana was forced to marry Lex, Lois’ cousin Chloe sacrificing her life, and Clark telling Lana about his true origins. There’s not much word on where any of these stories will go from here, except this one SPOILER ALERT: a rumor says that Chloe may have in fact survived last season’s cliffhanger. The producers have also confirmed that Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort will join the cast as Clark’s cousin Kara Zor-El, sent to earth to look after Clark and coming with many of his abilities-- and even some that he doesn’t have. Though she’s a clear spinoff of Supergirl, she won’t get the snazzy costume.
I was shocked to realize that Smallville has been on for seven whole seasons-- it premiered a month after 9/11, which seems a lifetime ago. Regardless, it’s never been a show that grabbed my interest, given my lack of comic book knowledge and inability to remember what’s on the CW except for Top Model. Still, it’s clear that Smallville has its devoted fans out there, and based on some spoiler found by this website, the titles for the upcoming season indicate that all is probably well in Smallville. So for the sake of good television, I suppose we should all be at least a little excited.

I sure hope Chloe comes back. After Pete left Clark needed some one to talk to and Chloe IS great. Chloe does a better job of it than Pete ever did. Chloe gets a look in her eyes sometimes when she appears to have been hurt and I think I feel the same way. I think Lana is beautiful, so is Lois, but I keep coming back to Chloe. I'm an old man but I like Chloe the best. Six years ago I wanted Clark to have an affair with Lana but to marry Chloe. I'm glad that never happen because I'm 67 years old and I read the comics. I was real glad to see Lois come on.
