Nineteen seasons. Holy crap! As in previous seasons, the 19th season of the animated show about a family and their lives in the wacky town of Springfield will include plenty of celebrity voice "appearances". Lionel Richie and Stephen Colbert will guest star in the first episode when it premieres in September. In the episodes that follow, fans can expect to hear the familiar voices of Steve Buscemi, Jack Black, Placido Domingo, Maya Rudolph, Matt Dillon, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Topher Grace, Jon Stewart, Dan Rather and a few other known celebrities.
I’m not going to lie. I haven’t watched The Simpsons regularly in years but after the hilarious full-length movie hit theaters this summer, my enthusiasm for the series, which has been airing on Sunday nights since I was a kid, has been somewhat rejuvenated.
One of the reasons I still enjoy The Simpsons is because it’s the type of show that you can jump in and out of as a viewer. I was able to enjoy the movie without having to have seen every season of the series and I know when it premieres this fall, the same will be the case. The Simpsons is a constant in American television. It’s always funny despite being occasionally predictable and in the midst of all of the new comedies and drama series that premiere each fall, its kind of comforting to know that when I need a bit of familiarity, all I have to do is turn on Fox on Sunday nights.
