After the mind-blowing 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, I doubt I’m alone in being excited to see what Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou has in store for us with the Closing Ceremony. At Beijing Olympics, dreams were achieved and records were broken. Some people will be going home with their dreams achieved while others suffered defeat. One Cuban fighter may even be banned from the Olympics for life for kicking a referee in the face after learning he was disqualified from the Taekwondo match for taking too much injury time. Drama! It’s all coming to an end and China is set to put on another show to close things out.
The Closing Ceremony is set to air on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 7 PM ET on NBC. The people over at NBC are aware of the expectations people have for this event after the Opening Ceremony knocked all of our socks off. From what one NBC Exec-VP says, it looks like we’re in for another visual treat. "There are high expectations for the Closing Ceremony after the amazing spectacle we saw at the Opening Ceremony," said David Neal, Executive Vice President, NBC Olympics. "I went to the dress rehearsal the other day witnessed more of Zhang Yimou's unbelievable creative vision. I've been sworn to secrecy but I will say that this will be another visual extravaganza featuring a cast of 6,800 on an unprecedented scale. Even with the high expectations, it will not disappoint."
Part of the ceremony will include Beijing handing over the Olympic flag to London, which is where the next Summer Olympics will be held.
