When the first season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles premiered, the story picked up in the time period following the second Terminator film. John is a teenager and Sarah is still alive (we learn in the third film that she would later die of cancer). Cameron, a good terminator from the future shows up and takes them through time to the present day. Judgment Day may have been avoided but the mission is still the same: Avoid the Terminators and find a way to stop them from ever being created. It’s a seemingly impossible mission as terminators still manage to find them and it is through their own survival skills and the help of Cameron and Derek Reese (Kyle Reese’s brother, who time-traveled from the future) that they’re still alive to fight for another season.
Here’s what Fox has to say about the second season: “In Season Two, life for the Connors intensifies as their relationships are challenged and the present and the future begin to become one. How long can Cameron protect them before they're discovered by Skynet? How will the Connors keep their family intact?” The new season will also introduce new characters including Riley (Leven Rambin), John’s new friend as well as Catherine Weaver (Shirley Manson), the CEO of Zeira Corp (sounds evil).
SCC is one of the returning series that I’m most looking forward to this season. I love the whole Terminator story and I think the writers have done a fantastic job of adapting it to the small screen. Summer Glau is excellent as the emotionless Cameron and Lena Headey has taken over the roll of Sarah with strength and femininity that really works. I’m excited to see where the story goes this season.
