2008 Fall TV Preview: The Oprah Winfrey Show The Oprah Winfrey Show - Season 23

Premieres: Monday, September 8, 2008
Network: Syndicated
Creator(s): Oprah Winfrey
Starring: Oprah Winfrey
Website: Oprah.com

The Oprah Winfrey Show is a syndicated talk show starring Oprah Winfrey. Oprah has spent more than two decades entertaining Americans with numerous celebrity interviews, chats about books and other “favorite things,” as well as reaching out to people in need and shedding light on major issues going on in this country and around the world.

When the 23rd season premieres, Oprah will feature a “Welcome Home Team U.S.A.” celebration in honor of U.S. Medalists who have returned home from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Among the featured athletes are Michael Phelps, Dara Torres, Nastia Luikin, Shawn Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Lisa Leslie, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. And since it’s Oprah, the show will also feature a number of Olympic stories that we might not have heard about yet.

Oprah has become so ingrained in American culture that it seemed almost unnecessary to have to describe it in the Rundown section above. She’s an inspiration to many people and it seems fitting that this season’s premiere will feature the athletes of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. While the Olympic buzz is dying down now that the games are done and all the medals have been won, it’s nice to see that they’re getting an Oprah-style homecoming. And as much as I am a fan Michael Phelps, I’m interested to hear some of the stories behind the less media-hyped medalists.

  1. John A. Craft Says:

    Dear Oprah,

I am a long time viewer of your show. I haven't written in years! I want to thank you for making a stand concerning something you said from the onset of the 2008 Presidental Race, i.e., that you had chosen your candidate and that you were NOT going to provide a platform for any of the candidates until the election was over.

Let those who want to "boycott" your show exercise their rights as,Americans in America to do so; while the rest of the faithful continue to admire your integrity concerning the matter.

Now, the other reason I write to you is, I have a (twin) brother that is smitten with Dara Torres, the great Olympian Swimmer; and he will give me no rest until I write your Show requesting how and where she can be reached.

He wishes to start a Fan Club in her honor. My part in all of this, however, is that of his (unpaid) secretary. Could you you put us in contact with Torres please. We were very proud of all of the U.S. Team Members, but we are especially proud of Torres, because so often in our society, the attitude is, when you are 40, you are washed-up.

Before I close I want to take theis opportunity to also thank you for all the nice things you have done for so many people the world over for so many years.

I am also thankful that you have such a wonderful and loyal friend in Gayle. As you probably know firsthand, one does not need a lot of friends, when one is blessed with a true friend.

All the best to you always, and thanks for the information about Dara Torres.

Janet and John, Los Angeles, CA
