America’s Got Talent is a talent competition with a similar format to American Idol. The major difference between Talent and Idol is that the contestants in Talent have skills that extend outside the world of singing. There are usually plenty of aspiring singers among the auditioners but there are also dancers, magicians, comedians, ventriloquists and a wide variety of other talented (and some untalented) people.

Like Idol, viewers get to vote for their favorites and acts are eliminated each week. This season, Sharon, Piers and The Hoff will return as judges and Jerry Springer will be back as the host.

I really like America’s Got Talent because it showcases a lot of acts that we probably wouldn’t normally get to see on TV (or anywhere else) if not for this show. Sure, there are plenty of singers, dancers and magicians but this series also features some pretty unique talents. I was really rooting for the snapping guy, Bobby Badfingers back in the first season. He could snap a tune like nobody’s business. And last year’s winner, Terry Fator, the ventriloquist was also surprisingly fantastic. The judges are alright, though their dynamic is similar to the Randy/Simon/Paula thing, and I just can’t help but adore Sharon Osbourne.
