2008 Summer TV Preview: Legally Blonde The Musical - The Search For Elle Woods

Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods Premieres: Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10:00 p.m. EST Network: MTV Creator(s): Raveille, Haylie Duff Starring: Haylie Duff, Paul Canaan, Heather Hach, Jerry Mitchell, Bernard Telsey Website: MTV.com  In Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods, MTV will follow 10 young women as they compete for the starring role in the Broadway musical based on the hugely popular movie, Legally Blonde (which was actually based on a less popular book). The series, which will run for eight episodes will show the girls as they trudge through the audition process, participate in challenges and in the end, one girl will win the role of Elle Woods. Haylie Duff, who earned her Broadway stripes with a starring role in Hairspray will mentor the girls. The girls will be judged by actor Paul Canaan, writer Heather Hach, director/choreographer Jerry Mithcell and casting director Bernard Telsey.  I love that MTV aired a taping of the full Broadway production of Legally Blonde The Musical. It was great getting to actually see the show without having to shell out the money for tickets. Plus the partnership between MTV and this musical is really a great way to promote the show and Broadway in general. I just wish I loved the actual production as much as I liked that MTV aired it. The play wasn’t terrible. It was actually pretty cute but it just wasn’t so great that I’d really want to watch a reality series based on it. So my disinterest in this series has less to do with the actual reality show than it does to do with my disinterest in the play. I loved NBC’s Grease You’re the One That I Want, which aired less summer and centered on the search for the next Danny and Sandy. I guess I just don’t care enough about Legally Blonde The Musical to want to see which girl wins the role of Elle Woods.
