Tyler Perry’s House of Payne is a 30-minute sitcom that centers on a multigenerational black family living in Atlanta. The head of household is Pops, a man who finds his life and routine stirred up when his nephew CJ (played by Allen Payne) moves in along with his kids.

In the first episode of the new season, titled “Driving Me Crazy,” Claretha’s car gets stolen and Calvin babysits Miranda’s mean-spirited nephew.

I’ve never seen a full episode of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne but from what I have seen of the show, the series appears to be an old-fashioned-style sitcom, complete with a studio audience and lots of scripted-sounding dialogue. The comedy consists largely of insult humor mixed with typical sitcom family silliness. This is not to say that there isn’t any value in that sort of thing, especially given the shortage in non-reality family programming on TV these days. I’m just not sure this series is something I’d get into. If you’re a fan of House of Payne, please feel free to post a comment below telling us why this series is worth a look.
