2008 Winter TV Preview: The Biggest Loser: Couples

The Biggest Loser: Couples - Season 5Premieres: Tuesday, January 1st at 8 p.m. EST (2-Hour Season Premiere) Network: NBC Creator(s):Ben Silverman, Dave Broome, JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson and Mark Koops Starring:: Alison Sweeney, Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels Website: NBC.com  Just weeks after wrapping Season 4, The Biggest Loser returns with Season 5. It’s all about couples, with teams of two competing against each other: a mother and son, husband and wife, best friends, brothers, a divorced couple, and former football teammates. The series has always featured an interactive element, but they’re kicking it up a notch with help from MSN.com. At-home viewers are encouraged to team up with a weight-loss buddy, and participants can sign up for the challenge to lose a million pounds on BiggestLoser.msn.com. The full site launches on January 1st and will feature a social networking community, exclusive health tips, and a sweepstakes. The top five teams will win a trip to L.A. to attend The Biggest Loser: Couples finale and wrap party. The winning team wins a luxury fitness trip and a personal trainer for one year. There will also be a “Biggest Loser Million Pound Tour,” as MSN and The Biggest Loser travel to five of the fattest cities in America: Chicago, Houston, Miami, Wichita, and Mesa, AZ. The goal: Raise awareness, motivate people, and encourage participation in the Million Pound Match-Up.  There’s something so motivating about watching a group of obese people lose weight and get excited about life again. It makes you think twice about eating that chocolate-covered donut or heaping extra spaghetti on your plate. And hey, get your butt (and your spouse’s butt) off the couch and take a walk!
