Torchwood is a spin-off to the popular BBC sci-fi series, Dr. Who and centers on a team of people at the Torchwood Institute whose job it is to watch the space/time Rift running through the city and keep an eye out for whatever comes through it.
In the first episode of the second season, the team is curious to know where Jack (John Barrowman) has been when he shows up after being gone for a while. But before they can deal with that, Jack’s old partner, Captain John Hart (James Marsters) shows up and no one knows if they can trust him.
I haven’t seen any of Dr. Who and chances are, I’d be more inclined to start watching that series (which I hear is very good) than I would to try and get into this spin-off series. Then again, maybe some of you Torchwood fans can post a comment letting me know if this is the kind of show someone can jump into mid-series or if I really do need to start with Dr. Who and work my way up. Science fiction can be tricky and hard to follow but I’m not opposed to giving new shows a chance if there’s enough good feedback.
In the meantime, I’m a bit intrigued by the premise of Torchwood and even more so by the fact that James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is making a guest appearance on the show when it premieres tonight.
