2011 Golden Globe Awards: How Did Ricky Gervais Do?
Ah, the Golden Globes, where TV and movies mingle, and in the case of tonight’s award ceremony, Ricky Gervais mercilessly roasts the talent among the audience.
Was Gervais too mean with some of his jabs? I suppose that’s up for debate. Remarks about Charlie Sheen’s recent antics were to be expected, but introducing Robert Downey Jr. by mentioning his checkered past with substance abuse might’ve been a bit harsh, at least by comparison to joking about some of Bruce Willis’ lesser celebrated films. Downey fired back with a dry comment about the mean spirited nature of the show before he made his presentation.
If there was one “big” winner of the night for the TV categories, it was Glee, which won for Best Comedy, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy (Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer). Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) and Laura Linney (The Big C) received much deserved awards for their leading roles. Meanwhile, Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) won in the Best Actor categories. Catch the full list of TV winners here.
What did you think of the ceremony? Was Gervais too brutal or just the right amount of funny? Did your favorites win?
