After a mediocre sixth season of the hit series, ’24,’ most fans are really hoping that the writers will bring the series back to greatness when it returns next year. Apparently FOX executives feel the same way because they just scrapped pretty much the entire story line for the new season despite the fact that the show was supposed to start production this month.
TVGuide.com’s Ausiello reported the news, saying that sources told him the network recently called off a plan to shoot a bunch of episodes in Africa. They tried to figure out how to save money and shoot the episodes in Los Angeles but then decided to just drop the whole thing and start from scratch.
TVGuide.com quoted Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe on ‘24’ as saying, “I don’t know what’s going on over there, but they’re going crazy.” She also said, “It’s kind of exciting, because I think [the postponement] means that they’re really having to dig in there and come up with some new stuff.” This decision for the rewrite will delay production for the seventh season by at least a few weeks.
Ausiello described “Day 6” to be “about as explosive as a wet firecracker” and I doubt there are many regular viewers of the series that would argue with that. I can barely remember how last season ended. Hopefully the do-over of the storyline for the new season will breath fresh life in to the series, especially if FOX plans to put it up against ‘Heroes,’ again next year.
