24 Writers Take A Time-Out To Retool Season 7's Ending

24 Writers Take A Time-Out To Retool Season 7's Ending It looks like part of the new season of 24 is getting a do-over. According to Entertainment Weekly, production on the 7th season is going to be shut down later in the month so that the writers can “reshape” the rest of the season. The good news is this isn’t really going to affect us since production was a bit ahead of schedule anyway so the time-out won’t affect how the episodes air next year.

As for the reasoning between the break, 24 Executive Producer Howard Gordon told EW.com, “We had a couple of scripts that we weren’t happy with. We just couldn’t get this direction to work, and we found another one that we liked better, so we wound up retooling it.”

Seeing this news reminded me of a similar bit of 24 news that broke last summer, in which it was reported that the writers were scrapping the original story they intended to go with for the seventh season of 24 due to budget issues. Then the writers’ strike happened and the season never aired anyway. Now we have a 24 Season 7-prequel movie set to air this November to look forward to and then a whole new season of 24 starting up in January.

I’m trying to be optimistic about 24 returning since it’s been so long since the series aired so I’m going to look at this break in production as a positive thing. Hopefully the writers will find a way to end the season better than they did the sixth season and we can all go back to thinking the series is one of the best shows on TV.
