The following contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of Legends of Tomorrow.

The CW's Legends of Tomorrow saw a lot of game-changing twists and seemingly irrevocable turns in its Season 3 finale. Among them was the apparent death of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), who sacrificed his life to give the Legends time in their fight against Mallus. While Rip's heroic end might have seemed like the last time viewers would catch a glimpse of the character, it may not be. Legends of Tomorrow's executive producer Marc Guggenheim had this to say regarding the finality of Rip Hunter's death:

We love Arthur, we love having Arthur on the show, and I think Arthur enjoys being on the show. Because it's a time travel show, and because we never saw a body, anything is possible. I think Arthur is totally willing to come back and play with us if we have a cool idea.

Marc Guggenheim teased the potential Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 spoiler surrounding Rip Hunter's fate in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Death on time travel shows is seldom final, so fans might have suspected the Season 3 finale may not be the character's final swan song. Actor Arthur Darvill is no stranger to time travel and its implications on a show's storytelling. Darvill starred on Doctor Who as the Eleventh Doctor's companion, Rory Williams. He started on the show in Season 5 before his character exited less than halfway through Season 7.

Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim seems hopeful that a "cool" story could bring the actor back. It will be understandable if that story takes a while to set up. It would be a shame to waste the emotional aftermath of Rip's heroic death by revealing he is alive right away. There is also the possibility that Arthur Darvill could return to the series as a different character, perhaps a relative of Rip Hunter's, who exists in another time.

While the mystery of when and how Rip Hunter will be seen again deepens, Marc Guggenheim did shed light on another character's Season 4 return. Despite Amaya (Maise Richardson-Sellers) deciding to return to her village in the season finale, Guggenheim assures fans that the actress is not leaving the series. Fans should expect Amaya to have a "different storyline" in Season 4, more of which will be made known at this year's Comic-Con.

The CW has already renewed Legends of Tomorrow for a fourth season, which should premiere sometime this fall. The series, which is a spin-off of Arrow and The Flash, premiered during the midseason of 2016. It has since developed a devoted following among fans of The CW's DC line-up. While Legends of Tomorrow has concluded its season, Black Lightning, Arrow, and The Flash still have more to go.

Black Lightning Season 1 airs its finale April 17 at 9 p.m. ET. The Flash's Season 4 finale airs May 22 at 8 p.m. ET. The Arrow finale promises to be a special treat for Legends of Tomorrow fans. Legends of Tomorrow's Caity Lotz will be returning as Sara Lance for Arrow's Season 6 finale. Don't miss her return! The Season 6 finale of Arrow airs Thursday, May 17 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
