When it comes to entertainment, it is difficult to think of a more buzz-prone platform than Netflix. It is one of the largest forces behind the changing landscape of television consumption and being the top dog has not come cheap. The amount that Netflix is set to spend on content in 2018 has been a topic of considerable conversation, as has its popularity compared to broadcast television. Now it seems Netflix is set to eclipse broadcast television in a whole new way, thanks to its spending.

The bank Goldman Sachs is predicting that in four short years from now in 2022, Netflix could spend an annual total of $22.5 billion on content. That amount would put the streaming platform's yearly budget within an inch of the combined total spent by America's networks, including its cable companies, per The Economist. In other words, Netflix could potentially spend the equivalent of every network on American television.

The enduring rise of Netflix is one of the most prevalent stories in the entertainment business. Its ascent only continues when others are struggling to maintain what they have, let alone grow. While broadcast television is trying to keep up and compete with the ever-changing world of how TV is consumed, Netflix is already ahead of the curve. It pioneered that frontier, arguably making streaming what it is today. Will its bubble burst? Time will tell that story.

For now, it seems like a day does not go by when Netflix is not announcing a new show to its upcoming list of intriguing programming prospects, all while the streamer considers new price plans for subscribers. And if you have noticed that trend, there is a reason. Netflix has been busier than busy with its upcoming content slate. It has acquired content from all over the world.

Netflix has revolutionized television as we know it and there is no going back to the way things used to be. In many ways, television can be split into a pre- and post-Netflix era when it comes to content and how it is consumed. Netflix has deals with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and it is not slowing down anytime soon. This new prediction surrounding the streamer's spending brings added meaning to that belief. Netflix is the future.
