NBC Is Giving Timeless An Actual Series Finale, Watch The Stars' Reactions

2018 has been a big year where the most vocal TV fans have actually gotten what they wanted, at least in situations involving shows that were cancelled before running out of creative juices. NBC's Timeless, which got a full-season resurrection after its first cancellation, has managed to beat the odds to live on beyond its heavily criticized second cancellation. Not for a third season, but in the form of a two-part series finale that will officially close out the time-traveling narrative.

At this point, the two-part finale isn't locked into any specific premiere dates, but fans can expect to see the Lifeboat team once again during the holidays, presumably when most shows have gone on hiatus. (Smart move by the network to make it a two-parter, too, instead of a lump-sum telecast.) Per executive producers and co-creators Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, the finale will be the same Timeless that we all know and love, focusing on history's most unsung, and will tell "one final emotional story for the Time Team." Here's their statement, which ends in a most telling way.

While we wish we could've made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing. We're thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?

Rufus' death in the Season 2 finale totally threw the fandom for an untimely loop, and it was expected for Season 3 to be centered on going back and preventing it. So it's super-safe to assume that the two-part closer will bring Rufus back in a big way. And speaking of, here's star Malcolm Barrett reacting to the news on Instagram.

Nothing too complicated there. Malcolm Barrett quickly snatched up some clothes and asked if we were ready to get him back. He meant Rufus, but TV has never suffered from more of Barrett himself, whose presence on Preacher also makes that show all the better for it.

But if that seemed too reserved and non-chaotic for you, then how about Abigail Spencer's coffee-spilling reaction?

You can check out posts made by co-stars Matt Lanter and more on the next page. Be sure to tune into Timeless' two-part season finale when it airs later this year during the holiday season. While waiting, head to our summer premiere schedule and our fall premiere rundown to see what new and returning shows will get here first.

Below is Matt Lanter's reaction, which was also a heck of a light more calm and quiet than Abigail Spencer's. Wyatt, er, Lanter is ready to go, though.

Next up is Sakina Jeffrey, whose Denise Christopher will be back on board, and will hopefully engage in some of the flailing-arm dance moves that Jeffrey pulls off.

And then we have Claudia Doumit, whose Jiya came so close to saving Rufus in the finale. She'll definitely be interested in seeking time-altering justice for the death. Will she get it in a way that is more eloquent than her celebratory message? Probably not.

Stay tuned for a Timeless finale release date, Clockblockers.
