It’s official. Tina Fey’s show-within-a-show ‘30 Rock’ will roll on for a full season on NBC.
TV.com reports that despite 'Rock's' initial struggle in the ratings war, last night’s episode rose from its season average by 25%. Says NBC entertainment president Kevin Reially, "We look forward to future episodes of this bright new show, which is right on-brand for our Thursday-night comedy block."
‘30 Rock’ showcases Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, head writer for an SNL sketch comedy called ‘The Girlie Show,’ matching wits with her new headstrong boss Jack Donaghey (Alec Baldwin). Mayhem and hilarity ensue when Donaghey enlists unstable movie star Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan of ‘SNL’ fame) into the rambunctious cast, and renames the skit ‘TGS With Tracy Jordan.’
Reially continues, "In ‘30 Rock,’ Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels, along with stars Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan, have the goods with this excellent comedy."
With ‘Rock’s’ season-long engagement, NBC may be on the verge of crafting the first ever “TGIT”—Thank God It’s Thursday. The peacock net offers ‘My Name is Earl’ at 8 PM ET, followed by hospital spoof ‘Scrubs’ (9 PM ET) ‘30 Rock’ (9:30 PM ET) and finally the ever popular ‘ER’ at 10 PM ET.
