It seems whenever comedian Ricky Gervais has the microphone at an awards show, people end up laughing. So next year’s Golden Globe awards are bound to be full of chuckles as it was announced today that Gervais will be hosting the event.

People.com posted the news, announcing that the British comedian (and star/creator of the original, U.K. version of The Office) will be hosting the 67th Annual Golden Globes in January. The Golden Globe awards ceremony features both film and television awards and is much more laid-back (and usually, more fun to watch) than then Oscars or the Emmy’s. Ricky Gervais will surely be a good fit to host this ceremony for that reason.

“Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry, which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host," Gervais said today. "I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down."

Thank you, Mr. Gervais for not resisting this one! Gervais had the audience and the viewers laughing last year at the Globes when he took the stage briefly and made a few jokes. As host, we can only hope he’ll deliver even more of those dry but hilarious quips throughout the ceremony.
