TV Recap: Life - Crushed

Have you ever wondered what a man would look like if he were to be crushed by a junk car crusher? Well, it’s your lucky day because we found out on this week’s Life. Apparently it looks like strawberry jelly and lasagna.

How does a guy end up crushed? That’s the question Crews and Reese are charged with. According to the people he worked with, no one had a problem with Mike. And Rob, one of his cowboy hat wearing co-workers said he checked the car before he put it on the crusher. Of course no one wanted the dead guy dead. Seems that’s always how it is. Maybe Crews and Reese will have better luck with Mike’s fiancée, Rosa. Nope. According to her, they were happy and excited about moving in together. The only problem they were having is that at night, when Mike thought Rosa was sleeping, he would lock himself in the garage for hours. She thought he just needed space but when Crews and Reese go in the garage, the only thing in there is Mike’s computer. When they turn it on, there are pictures of a naked woman and a ton of saved IMs. The question on everyone’s mind, including Rosa’s, is who the hell is that?

From the IM’s, they discover it’s a girl named Bethany. Reading through all of the IM’s, they discover that Bethany is a junior in college, used to play tennis but had to quit and lives in L.A. They also find out that she was talking to some one else, a cowboy who was lying about his looks. You guessed it. Turns out Bethany was talking to Rob first and when Mike found out, he stole her away from him. Bethany still talked to Rob but she sent him messages like, “Would you really see me if I was there” and she sent Mike sexual messages that even made Tidwell blush. When they questioned Rob, he got a little perturbed and a lot strange. He obviously was in love with Bethany and didn’t even want Crews and Reese to speak her name. He also obviously had a secret because he said, “I have a secret.” But he wasn’t spilling. How could he spill on his one true love?

He really didn’t have to since Crews and Reese are so good. They figured out who Bethany was and when they went to meet her, she was just as gorgeous as her pictures. The only problem is she swears she hasn’t been online or in any trouble since her father made her quit school. Bethany’s a dead end but maybe her parents will be more helpful. Yeah, not tonight. Her mother comes out and when she finds out they’re police officers, she hands them a phone to call Bethany’s dad. The dad is a president of a record company and he didn’t get there by being nice. When Crews and Reese dig a little deeper, they find wrap sheets on both daughter and father. Guess they haven’t been keeping out of trouble. The last time the father was charged with assault, Bethany had begun an affair with one of her professors. Guess where it started? Online. Everything seems to be coming together. Until they talk to Bethany again.

Crews shows up just as Bethany’s leaving and hops in her car. She’s acting a little crazy but isn’t that to be expected from some one who’s wrongfully accused? While Crews is with her, Reese takes the mom because if Bethany didn’t do it, then her angry thug father must have. But the mom is a dead end again. The only thing she admits to is that she used to be a singer but quit when she got married and had Bethany. Agh. Who did kill Mike?

The only person who knows is sitting in a cell, not speaking. Maybe he’ll talk to Bethany. Yup. Crews and Reese put Bethany in front of Rob and when she says she doesn’t know him, he tells her how he saw her meet Mike in the junk yard and hit him with a racket. Then Rob came and cleaned up the mess by putting him in a car on the crushing line. Bethany still swears it wasn’t her. And then Rob says he knows her when he saw her and Bethany’s eyes kind of twitch. What was that line she wrote to him in an IM? Turns out it was a line from a song. Her mother’s song. Are you following me? Bethany’s mom pretended to be her to see what her daughter had been up to. She stumbled into a chat room and couldn’t resist feeling like her young self again. When she met Mike, he laughed at her because of her age, even though he loved her online and on the phone. She didn’t mean to hurt him. She just wanted her life back. So much for that.

To catch you up on some more important matters: Ted started his professorship. It’s okay that his class consists of only 3 people, right? It’s the quality of students that counts. Also, Rachel’s speaking. Only, she’s talking to Jack Reese. But if he knows where she is, then why hasn’t he told the other four? Maybe he is trying to protect her. Speaking of the other four. Crews visited the wife of the slain officer from the newspaper but she didn’t have too many answers. In fact, at first she said that her husband killed himself. She eventually came around with the truth, though, and pointed out the only cop’s name she knew. Hey, it’s something to go on.

On a lighter side. Crews and his ex had another close encounter. They stopped themselves before anything happened but dang, there isn’t a viewer alive who doesn’t want that to happen. And guess who finally made an actual move. Tidwell. Yup, he asked Reese out but of course, she said no. It’s okay, that’s how his first three wives started out, too. Oh, and can we get an award for whoever chooses the music for the show because they’re amazing. Until next time, when one of the teasers is Tidwell leaning in for a kiss with our favorite former alcoholic.
